Jesus appeared several times in the 1670s to Saint Margarent Mary Alacoque. She said "I could plainly see His heart, pierced and bleeding, yet there were flames, too, coming from it and a crown of thorns around it." Jesus said to her, "Here is the heart that has so loved men as to spare nothing for them, exhausting and consuming itself in order to prove its love for them."

Every first Friday and the entire month of June are dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The special feast of the Sacred Heart is celebrated on June 18.
