The Claddagh
is a traditional Celtic image. The heart is at the center wearing
a crown at the peak and held by two hands. The following are just
a few of its many meanings.
The Holy Trinity - the crown refers to the
Father, the left hand to the Son, the right hand to the Holy Spirit.
This correlates to the Shamrock, one of the earliest symbols of
the Holy Trinity among the Irish.
The Love of Christ - His two hands joined
and crowned in Glory.
Married Love - The Claddagh
represents elements considered necessary for a marriage to be
happy: heart - love; crown - loyalty; hands - friendship. Love
must be loyal and held up by friendship.
