St. Maximilian Kolbe - Our Patron Saint

What does Saint Maximilian Kolbe, the saint who gave his life for another prisoner at Auschwitz, have to do with a Catholic evangelization apostolate? Consider the following:

His Marian teachings are profound and he is known as the Apostle of Consecration to Mary. With six other seminarians, he established the Immaculata Movement and he began the magazine Knight of the Immaculate to fight religious apathy. He never compromised, believing that "The most deadly poison of our times is indifference", and that "no one in the world can change Truth". He also said, "for Jesus Christ I am prepared to suffer still more".

Wherever his missionary work took him, he continued his publication work in order to catechize those who did not know their faith. This was one reason for his arrest and imprisonment at Auschwitz. In prison, he continued to minister to fellow prisioners with catechesis, hearing confessions, offering Mass and distributing Holy Communion. (Bread and wine were smuggled into the prison for this purpose.) He died as he lived: in service to others.

Saint Maximilian is called the "patron saint of our difficult century". We believe that if he were alive today, he would be using CD media and other evolving technologies to spread Truth. For this reason, we have taken him as our patron saint and we ask him to intercede for all of us: for those who promote the Lighthouse Catholic Media apostolate, and for all those whom the apostolate touches.

St. Maximilian Kolbe, pray for us.
